As-Salamu Alaykum, a greeting of peace. We would like to invite you to our 4th annual “Sharing Ramadan” open house. This annual event will be held on Wednesday, June 7th from 6:00 P.M.—9:30 P.M. This event encourages all Americans to visit your local Islamic Center, take a guided tour of the Masjid, enjoy a delicious meal, hear presentations on Islam, engage in dialogue, witness the Muslim prayers, and so much more.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the lunar Islamic calendar. More than one billion Muslims worldwide celebrate Ramadan by fasting and building a closer relationship with Allah (God). During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and intimate relations with their spouse from break of dawn to sunset. The fast is performed to learn discipline, self-restraint, and generosity, while obeying God’s commandments. Fasting (along with the declaration of faith, daily prayers, charity, and pilgrimage to Mecca) is one of the “five pillars” of Islam. The end of Ramadan will be marked by communal prayers called “Eid ul-Fitr” or Feast of the Fast-Breaking, on June 25th. (Because Islam operates on a lunar calendar system, the actual date is governed by sighting of the new moon.)
Ramadan is special because the Qur’an (Islamic holy scripture) was first revealed during this month. Muslims around the world strive to spiritually purify themselves by trying to abstain from all that is evil in speech and action. It is also recommended that Muslims read as much as possible from the Qur’an during this month.
When you arrive at the Daar-Ul-Islam Masjid, you will be given a guided tour of the building. After the tour, guests will be given a presentation on Islam and engage in dialogue, followed by the Iftar (breaking of the fast) meal along with an international dinner. Iftar is an integral part of Muslim community life during the sacred month of Ramadan. At sunset every night, Muslims around the world gather in their homes and mosques to break their fast together with their families and communities.
Guests are welcome to observe the sunset prayers after the Iftar meal. Your host will direct you to an appropriate place to sit and watch. After the Adhan (call to prayer), Muslims move to the prayer hall and line up for the congregational prayer. They will form tight ranks, a symbol of unity and equality within the Muslim community. After the conclusion of the prayer, dinner will be served.
We would be delighted if you and your family would be our guests. If you have any questions, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The St. Louis Muslim community is inviting all Americans to move past the divisive election and “Make America Whole Again”. They are hosting an Islamic Center open house to invite our friends who are Trump supporters and Republicans in order to build bridges of peace and mutual understanding. America is more polarized today than at any other point in recent history. Much of the negative rhetoric has been against Islam and Muslims. Our goal is to invite people who have questions about Islam and Muslims to visit a local Islamic Center, break bread, ask questions, and get to know their Muslim neighbors. This event is primarily for Trump supporters and Republicans, though everyone in the community is welcome.
We strongly believe that the most effective and lasting way to build bridges is to open our doors and sit down together in spite of feelings of mistrust in order to recognize the core human values that we all share but practice differently.
The open house will include:

Directly beneath Straub’s of Clayton Rd., interns Atif Shamail and Shehmin Awan nervously packed up the vacuum in their executive director’s office. The rest of the CAIR team and early guests-turned-volunteers lent hands in the lobby for last minute printing, product placement, and arranging literature tucked into bookcases flanking a giant flat screen TV along the eastern wall.
CAIR-MO, Council on American-Islamic Relations-Missouri, celebrated their St.Louis office open house on February 19, 2017 with huge success, inspiring momentum to blaze forward. Humble projections for attendance were cast aside when over 150 visitors strengthened ties with the civil rights advocacy team over lively conversation from 1pm to 5pm that Sunday. Guests were also treated to snacks and homemade ethnic cuisine and sweet pastries donated by Humaira Qalbani. It took two people, Dr. Anjum Shariff, board President, and Faizan Syed, Executive Director, to calm the lively crowd for formal introductions at 2pm.
For CAIR-MO staff themselves, the most memorable part was the generous attendance and the inspiration it yielded. Chris Caras, CAIR-MO’s outreach director, also noted attendant diversity while Ian Mooney, intern and volunteer coordinator, was energized by the didactic discussions taking place around him. Linah Elnashar, entrepreneur and assistant to CAIR-MO, enjoyed the networking opportunity as she looks forward to representing Muslims and CAIR at the liberal women meeting this Monday. Yusra Ali, event coordinator for CAIR-MO, won't forget the fiery chatter with local artists coming out to support and be involved. Yusra is overseeing an upcoming event, “Creativity and Identity: A Muslim-American Art Exhibit”.
CAIR-MO team attendees not mentioned previously include Yasir Ali, Sadia Ali, Omar Malik, Ali Chaudry, Omar Memon, Meraj Sirajuddin, and Naveen Ayesh. Absent for travel was Robert West, CAIR-MO attorney.
CAIR-MO was grateful to welcome guests aligned with their tradition of peace, justice, and freedom of faith. Allies for political peace included representative Bill Otto among many democratic and bi-partisan activists. For justice advocacy, members of the South Asian Bar Association (SABA) and New Legal Alliance came. Faith leaders and representatives of many local religious organizations and groups, including Metropolitan Congregations United and Ethical Society of St.Louis were also in force.
When the event came to a close and remaining guests left warmly, CAIR-MO staff gathered the volunteer sign-up forms littered about the office. Sweet smell lingered, from cookies and cake as well as the encouraging words that still hung in the air. CAIR-MO invites everyone to follow them for future events and opportunities to help out Muslim minorities and bring hope to a healing nation.

We each have our own individual identities and nurture our own forms of creativity, be it science, language, or the arts, just like any other human being.
Featuring Artists of all kinds that live right here in our hometown of St. Louis will be quite a night to see. You'll have the opportunity to speak with Artists and learn how they became passionate about art, started their businesses, and what inspires their creativity. We hope that you'll also introduce yourself and discuss your passion for art and get to know one another on a personal basis.

Islamophobia is one of the greatest threats to civil rights today. After the Presidential election, hate crimes against American Muslims have spiked. The administration continues to pursue an Islamophobic agenda of banning all Muslims, targeting Muslim organizations, and denying religious freedoms to American Muslims. The mainstreaming of hate is not only against Muslims but has led to an unacceptable rise in Anti-Semitism, a rise in hate groups in America, and other troubling trends. CAIR-Missouri is a local civil rights and advocacy organization and a non-profit 501(c)3 that stands on the front line of defending not only American Muslim civil rights but all peoples civil rights. We invite you to attend a vital Educational and Fundraising program to support our work.

Over the last month, CAIR-Missouri has seen a dramatic hike in discrimination cases and hate incidents. We've also witnessed the tremendous outpouring of support from our neighbors, interfaith groups, and the general public. Whether it's hundreds of thousands marching on the streets to oppose the Muslim ban, protest in front of airports, the march in downtown St. Louis, and literally thousands of other activities. We are living in an amazing time. A time when people are coming out to say no to anti-Muslim bias and demand a nation that respects all religions.
Less than 8-months ago, CAIR-Missouri was only 1-full-time staff member working without an office. Now, thanks to your generous support, we have 3-full-time staff members and a beautiful office in West County St. Louis. We've been able to hire our full-time civil rights attorney Robert West and Islamic Education Director Chris Caras. Our goal is to hire another full-time employee and increase our activities to keep up with the growing challenges that we will be facing.
