A group of nearly 40 counselling students visited a local Islamic Center in St. Louis in order to gain a deeper understanding about the American Muslim community. The Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis hosted the event at their Daar-Al-Islam Masjid. Speakers from Al-Salam Day School (ADS), The Islamic Information Center of St. Louis (IICSTL), and the Missouri Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MO) gave various presentations on a variety of topics ranging from the fundamentals of Islam to how the current political climate impacts American Muslims. The counselling students were given a tour of the Islamic Center and ate lunch at local international Muslim owned restaurants.
During the afternoon session, nearly 40 young teenage Muslims came to the center and participated in group discussions with the counselling students. The goal was to give first hand experiences of growing up Muslim in American, discuss the struggles they are going through, and bring a human face to the conversation. CAIR-MO is proud to have participated in this program and promotes continued relationships between American Muslims and educational institutions.
