Please join ABS, ALAS, APIAI, Ashoka, MSA, Pride, and +PLUS on October 5th from 6pm-8pm for Perspectives on the Presidential Debate: Bridging Understanding in an effort to highlight the different impacts this election is having in specific communities as well as unite us. As debate and election season is upon us, the level of privilege, whiteness, and negative rhetoric in our political system becomes more and more clear. This election in particular has impacted marginalized groups in countless different ways and has been triggering for many minority experiences. As different student groups representing different minority identities, we all felt a sense of frustration, grief, and challenge to somehow address these issues that are present all around us. In an effort of solidarity and support, we are convening a panel of experts to highlight the struggles, importance, and voices of our marginalized stories.
There will be 7 panelists that were chosen by each group participating to speak about their identity and how policies and rhetoric affect their communities. Each speaker will be revealed as the event approaches. We will be focusing on issues important to these groups such as social equity, healthcare, and immigration. Following the panel discussion, we will have optional breakout sessions where individuals can unpack the discussion and delve deeper into conversations in smaller spaces. Refreshments will be provided!
