HAZELWOOD • It was billed as an open house where Republicans and supporters of President Donald Trump could learn more about Islamic culture and meet some of their Muslim neighbors.
But it was difficult to find any supporters of Trump at the Dar-Al-Jalal Islamic Center Sunday afternoon for the event dubbed “Make America Whole Again.”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations organized the event, and Executive Director Faizan Syed said he and his staff invited local conservative groups, such as a Tea Party chapter and local Republican Party officials.
Syed conceded it was a “first step” and said the group planned to hold future open houses. It’s important to try and reach Trump supporters directly because CAIR open houses have mostly drawn more liberal non-Muslims.

In an attempt to bridge sour relations between Muslims and Republicans and supporters of President Trump, the Dar-Al-Jalal Islamic Center in St. Louis held an open house on Sunday afternoon, for people to learn more about Islam and Islamic culture.
Speakers at the event spoke to an audience of around 100 people, who were predominately Muslim.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations organised the event, and told the St Louis Post Dispatch that they had invited many local conservative groups, who failed to send any large representation or encourage attendance.
These included a Tea Party chapter and local Republican party officials, who were invited to the event called "Make America Whole Again".

“It’s just a really colorful culture, there is a lot of hand-made stuff. That’s how women would work, they would use their hands to make money for themselves by doing handiwork,” said Yusra Ali from Ballwin, Missouri, who showed and explained the items of clothing. “They are obsessed with glamour, I mean look at all these shiny things!”
“We are demonstrating the classic Pakistani bridal wear and some other traditional trinkets, hats, men’s clothing, traditional shoes,” Ali said. “For fragrances we use oils instead of alcohol-based scents. I also have this pure silver bottle that has antimony that women use in their eyes to clean them out, and it’s also used as an adornment.”
