MEDIA ADVISORYCAIR-Missouri to Announce Discrimination Motion Filed Against North County City for Denying Muslim Family a Business License
(ST. LOUIS, MO, 2/14/2017) – On Wednesday, February 15, the Law Offices of Jay Kanzler and the Missouri chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MO) will hold a news conference to discuss a lawsuit against a North County mayor who allegedly denied an Arab Muslim family a business license based on their faith and ethnicity.

Attorney Jay Kanzler said in a statement:
“It is appalling that a city would deprive its residents of a business license just because the mayor doesn’t like the owners, their religion or national origin. The mayor should resign and the city should immediately issue the business license for the new laundromat without the pretextual restrictions the Mayor has imposed. This is another embarrassing moment for our wider community, which is committed to coming together and rebuilding after Ferguson.”

CAIR-Missouri’s Executive Director Faizan Syed said in a statement:
“It’s unacceptable that this motion has to be filed in the first place to get this city to do its job. This family should not have to engage in a legal battle just to get a business license.”
