Since the tragic attacks in Paris, 32 U.S. Governors have come out to ‘bar’ Syrian Refugees from entering their states. Though no Governor has any legal authority to take such action this has created a nationwide hysteria against welcoming Syrian refugees. Two months ago hundreds of St. Louisans went to the streets to encourage bringing more Syrian refugees to the U.S. and St. Louis in particular.

“Shame on those governors who are taking political advantage of the tragedy in Paris to slam the door in face of refugee families,” said Faizan Syed, executive director of CAIR-St. Louis. “Our goal is to show people in our city, the country and the world that America welcomes Syrian refugees and we are going to stand against political fear mongering.”
The program includes a rally with speeches from organizers and community leaders in the Delmar Loop, along with a march, followed with a prayer vigil for victims of global terrorism.
Many anti-Refugee Governors are citing possible security concerns. Syrian refugees already go through very strict security screening with the process taking up to two years.
They also have to pass 13 different security hurdles, need approval from both the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department, along with in person meetings. Roughly half of all the refugees coming to the U.S. are children.
