CAIR-Missouri to Co-Host Historic Iftar at St. Louis City Hall to Celebrate the Region's Muslim Community
(ST. LOUIS, MO, 5/7/2019) – Later today, May 7, Alderman John C. Muhammad of the 21st ward and the Missouri chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Missouri), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will host the first historic iftar (breaking of the Ramadan fast meal) at St. Louis City hall to celebrate the region's Muslim community.

“Ramadan is a month of sharing and bringing people of all faiths and backgrounds together,” said CAIR-MO Executive Director Faizan Syed. “We are proud of the leadership in St. Louis for holding such an important celebration to honor and recognize the contributions of the St. Louis Muslim community.”
The event will include speeches from various Muslim community leaders as well as city officials.
At sunset the Iftar, the breaking of the fast meal, will be served. After sunset, the Muslim congregational prayer will take place. A halal dinner will be served which will then end the program. Ample parking will be available inside of City Hall’s parking lot.
“Nearly one billion Muslims of every race and nationality observe the month of Ramadan” said Alderman John C. Muhammad. “The City of St. Louis is home to nearly 10,000 Muslims. Those who will gather tonight will celebrate the commencing of this holy month and this momentous historic event. This celebration serves as a sign that Muslims have a role in both the political and social fabric of our community.”
